Samir Hrichi. An eclectic heritage of exotic and local, of upscale and down-to-earth — just like his menu. First-generation American, Samir was born in New York City of parents of Moroccan and Latvian descent. This early exposure of diverse cultures instilled an appetite for adventure. Samir soon traveled the world, experiencing the tastes of Thailand, Cuba, Morocco, and Italy, to name just a few. After returning home and graduating from the world-renowned Culinary Institute of America, Samir’s talents were quickly put to work at New York City’s famous Sfuzzi and Cite restaurants as well as throughout the famed Hamptons in Long Island.
Still, ever since Samir began in the industry washing dishes at the age of 13, his dream was to own his own place. After seizing an opportunity to open Sami’s Pizza in the heart of Kingston, NY, Samir’s talent soon transferred into capital, which, in 1998, positioned him to become the proud owner of Ship to Shore on Kingston’s beautiful waterfront district.
A true American Bistro, Ship to Shore boasts a myriad of 5-star reviews along with the highest Zagat-rated American Bistro in the Hudson Valley. Samir’s secret? Keep it simple: keep it fresh, keep it local, don’t compromise a pinch on quality and people will keep coming back.
Samir lives just a few minutes from the restaurant with his wife Sarah and their three children; Samara, Silvio, and Shadia.
